Woven Cane & Rattan Furniture - The Seasonal Edit: Spring 2019
We made it through winter! It’s officially the first day of spring, which means another seasonal edit!
I’ve been swooning over all types of woven furniture lately, specifically cane furniture! I love how light and airy the woven texture feels, which is perfect for spring, wouldn’t you agree?
To be honest, I haven’t always been a fan of rattan furniture. In the past, if someone mentioned the word rattan, I would totally cringe!
I still kind of do… and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way. I think that’s because we all picture our grandma’s rattan furniture. Remember those white rattan or wicker shelving units that would sit over the toilet?
That’s what I think of when you say rattan. Ugh… I think we can all agree that we never want to see that look come back, right?
But, trust me when I say that rattan furniture is coming back with a vengeance! Today, we’re seeing cane and rattan furniture with more modern lines and even pops of black!
Cane is made from the outer layer of the rattan plant. It’s cut into long strands and woven into sheets in various patterns. Cane remains a popular choice among furniture makers today because of its sustainability and resistance to moisture. So, it’s no wonder why we see this look popping up from generation to generation! It’s truly an oldie, but goodie!
Here are a few of my current favorites -

Not exactly your grandma’s rattan and cane furniture, am I right? I love the modern and contemporary edge these pieces have, along with the lightness the cane material brings.
What do you think of this look? Are you a fan of woven cane or rattan furniture? Let me know in the comments below, and of course, if you’re looking for more inspiration, check out our other seasonal edits and Pinterest page for more!
