Get the Look: Classic Meets Feminine Living Room
I’m back at it with another e-design and sharing all the details! This time, it’s a living room that’s sophisticated enough to host cocktail parties, but comfortable enough for those lazy Sundays. Something that we all want, right?
My client requested a mix of contemporary and classic style, with pops of blue and a few metallics mixed in.
As you probably know, I looovvvvee my neutrals, so the pops of blue through me for an unexpected loop. I ended up incorporating pops of blue the Savvy Heart way... subtle and chic. I opted for blue tones that titered more towards the gray realm, and used whites and creams to help neutralize it and brighten it up.
My client was already working with a decent-sized space with beautiful built-in bookshelves and a fireplace, but another unexpected element was the wet bar.
I started by anchoring the seating area with a large traditional /vintage rug that has several subtle pumps of blue.
I wanted to create the main focal point around the fireplace and bookcases, so I placed a comfortable cream sofa in front of the fireplace, and then balanced the scale with two swivel chairs and a long bench. The swivel chairs are great for entertaining, watching TV, or to see what’s being made at the bar. The long bench by the doorway provides seating, without blocking the walkway or daylight.
It was important for my client to have optimal seating for many occasions, informal and formal, so I added two square stools in front of the fireplace, and just like that, the living room can seat eight!
I brought in feminine metallic accents by using different finishes of brass, like the antiqued brass coffee table and polished brass accessories in the bookcase.
There’s no arguing that every room needs a good lighting plan. A couple of can lights in the ceiling weren’t going to cut it, so I added four picture lights above the bookcases and two floor lamps on both sides of the sofa.
